NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The McCann Tech Hornets made history Saturday afternoon with their 12-7 win over Turners Falls for the Division 6 Western Massachusetts football title.

The win marked the first title in school history, and this already was the first McCann football team to finish with an undefeated regular season.

“I haven’t come down from it all and I don’t think anyone else out here has either,” coach Bob LeClair said about the Western Massachusetts title. “But you have to do so much more, because it was a big game Saturday, but now it’s an even bigger game this coming Saturday.”

The Hornets now look to continue down this glorified undefeated road in the state semi-finals. They will be facing Littleton on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Doyle Field in Leominster.

McCann Tech is one of three Berkshire County teams with a chance to advance to the Dec. 6 state championship games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

On Saturday at Westfield State University, Pittsfield will play in the Division 5 semi-finals at 11 a.m., and Wahconah will play for a berth in the D4 final at 2 p.m.

LeClair and his squad are certainly still taking in their big win from this past Saturday, but on Monday a whole new task was at hand for them with the advancement to the state semi-finals.

“It’s the same as what we do most other weeks, but a little more intensified,” LeClair said. “We really tried to get as much information as we could on this team.”

LeClair, with some help, has gathered as much information about Littleton as possible and put together a scouting report that he’s confident about.

“We saw them Friday night, and one game isn’t quite enough; so we’ve gotten some films and some help from some people,” LeClair said. “With everything we’ve got, we’ve got a pretty good handle on what to expect.”

McCann will continue to prepare for Saturday’s game; LeClair said  his squad is ready to do more than just finish with the Western Mass title, and they’ve been working all week to continue their season.

“When you’re one of the last four teams in the state to be playing that’s quite an honor and a privilege,” he said.
