Mason, Lawson Earn Some Recognition

We stay on the soccer pitch and go to opposite ends of the county for this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week.

The McCann Tech girls soccer team is one of the few unbeaten teams left in the county as we near the end of September.

And Shaylee Lawson is a big reason why.

Lawson is tied for the team lead in goals with six and has three assists for the 4-0-2 Hornets, who won a pair of games last week.

Lawson scored twice and assisted on a goal in Friday's road win at ware.

She and her fellow seniors have posted double-digit winning seasons each of their first three years, winning 16 times a year ago, and are trending in that direction again this fall.

McCann Tech has a road test against a county foe on Tuesday when it heads to Berkshire Community College to face Taconic.

The Monument Mountain boys soccer team bounced back from its worst loss of the year to have one of the best weeks of any team in the area.

Sophomore Finn Mason had a pair of goals in the Spartans' "share the wealth" offense -- including a header in a road win at Pittsfield.

For the week, Monument Mountain, which plays in Division 4, went 2-0-1, including a 2-2 tie against D2 Amherst-Pelham, a game in which Mason also scored a goal.

After three games in one week, the Spartans get a little bit of a breather but will face a challenge on Thursday when they head to Hampshire Regional.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
