WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Westfield Tech boys soccer team jumped out to a two-goal lead at half-time and hung on for a 2-1 win over McCann Tech on Monday afternoon.

Adam Strycharz scored in the ninth minute, and the Tigers benefited from an own goal midway through the first half to take command.

In the 69th minute, Nick LaForest got the Hornets on the board by converting a penalty kick for his eighth goal of the year.

“It was a hard fought game where we came alive in the second half but couldn’t quite make the comeback,” McCann Tech coach John Bresett said. “A few unlucky bounces but overall we played a solid game against a tough opponent.”

Andrew Levesque stopped 11 shots in goal for McCann Tech.

The Hornets (7-5) host Hampden Charter on Thursday.
