SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Allison Steuernagle scored a pair of goals Thursday to lead the Mount Everett girls soccer team to a 5-0 win over Minuteman Regional in the preliminary round of the Division 5 State Tournament.

Steuernagle scored an unassisted goal in the seventh minute for the eventual game-winner. She also scored the first goal of a four-goal second half for the Eagles, converting an assist from Chevelle Raifstanger in the 43rd minute.

“Both teams kept the intensity going in the first half and after our half time talk, I told the girls we needed to find a way to finish,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “We didn't want to get into the last 10 minutes of a game up only 1-0 and have a misplaced kick or touch hurt us.

“They all responded well in that second half, and we started making better touches and decision making with our passes that led to some nice goals.”

Emma Goewey made six saves to earn the shutout win in goal.

The Eagles travel to West Boylston Saturday in the Round of 32.
