Monument Mountain Downs Chicopee

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Mabel Cooney had a goal and an assist Wednesday to lead the Monument Mountain girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over Chicopee in the Spartans’ season opener.

 

Cooney scored the game’s first goal with an assist from Mercedes Raifstanger in the 11th minute. Gabriela Mora converted a Cooney assist to give Monument Mountain a 2-0 lead at half-time.

 

After the Pacers scored in the second minute of the second half, Monument Mountain kept them off the board until Lucy Dohoney could provide an insurance goal with 8 minutes 22 seconds left.

 

Ynes Bourdon stopped eight shots to earn the win in goal.

 

The Spartans (1-0) are at Lenox on Friday.
