MATTAPOISETT, Mass. – The Old Rochester girls soccer team Monday advanced via penalty kick shootout past Pittsfield in the preliminary round of the Division 3 State Tournament.

Caprese Conyers scored from Maddie Pope in regulation, and the Generals played their hosts to a 1-1 tie through eighty minutes of regulation and two 10-minute sudden-death overtime periods.

Pittsfield’s Harolyn Castillo, who made 15 saves in regular play, stopped two more shots in overtime, but No. 27 Old Rochester pulled out the win on PKs and earned the right to play No. 6 Lynnfield in the Round of 32.

“We pressured every ball, played physical defensively and had great through balls,” Pittsfield coach Molly West said. “We showed up. And I’m so beyond proud of this team for bringing energy, effort and a great attitude. Harolyn, Bre’jai [Ellerbee] and Kyana [Summers] were magical defensively.”

Pittsfield ends its season with a record of 8-8-3.

“We had a great season, full of growth and big wins while also realizing the areas we need to focus on to continue building the program,” West said. “I’m very excited for our young players. And proud of our Seniors for leading the charge these past four years. They have been instrumental with creating a culture needed to raise expectations and competitiveness.
