Pelletier Finishes Fifth in New England

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Mount Greylock junior Devin Pelletier went 5-2 and claimed fifth place in the 160-pound weight class at this weekend’s New England Wrestling Championships.

After losing in the championship quarterfinals on Saturday morning, Pelletier won two straight matches in the consolation bracket to reach the consolation semis. There, he dropped a 6-3 decision to Kameron Doucette of Skowhegan, Maine.

 

Pelletier was slated for a rematch against Somerset’s Austin Cooley in the fifth place match but was credited with a win when Cooley bowed out with an injury.

 

Cooley started his Saturday with a 12-0 win over Pelletier, but Pelletier quickly recovered with a 4-2 win over Tyler Burgess of Bennington, Vt., powerhouse Mount Anthony Union.

 

Pelletier advanced in the wrestlebacks with a 3-2 win over Connecticut’s Chase Lind in the consolation quarters.

 

Pelletier finishes his junior season with a record of 59-7, giving him 188 career wins. HIs 2015-16 campaign included a second-place finish in Western Mass, a fourth-place finish in the state Division 3 tournament and a sixth-place showing at last week’s all-state tournament.
