PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Even without its No. 1 runner, the Mount Greylock boys cross country team was easily No. 1 in a four-team meet at Reid Middle School on Wednesday.

The Mounties took the top four places and seven of the top 10 in a meet that featured Lenox, Pittsfield and Lee.

Mount Greylock only was scoring against the Wildcats, who they beat, 15-50. Pittsfield picked up a pair of dual meet wins by the same score, against the ‘Cats and Millionaires.

The top boy in the 109-runner field was Sam Culver, who finished in 18 minutes, 11 seconds, a 5:51 mile pace.

Last week’s winner for the Mounties, senior Evan Arthur, sat this one out as coach Scott Burdick tries to keep the Western Massachusetts champions healthy for the big meets at the end of the season.

“You can only go to the well so many times,” Burdick said.

Culver Wednesday was closely followed by teammate and fellow junior Owen Brandriss in 18:15 and senior Cameron Castonguay in 18:16. Sophomore Josh Cheung was a little way back at 18:28.
