Monument Mountain Boys Win League Title
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Monument Mountain’s Kitson Stover won Monday’s slalom at Bousquet to lead the Spartans to a team win that gave them the Berkshire County Alpine League season championship.
Stover crossed the finish line in 42.78 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than the rest of the field, and helped the Spartans earn a seven-second team win over runner-up Wahconah.
That gave Monument Mountain its second weekly win of the season and 10 more points for 55 team points in the six-week schedule.
The Spartans finished one point ahead of runner-up Lenox in the season standings. Lenox, which placed third on Monday, finished one point ahead of third place Wahconh.
The girls season championship was decided in Week 5 with Monument Mountain amassing an insurmountable lead.
The Spartans increased that margin with their sixth team win in six outings on Monday night behind the second- and third-place finishes from Loghan Stzepa and Lilli Sprague.
Strzepa finished 1.7 seconds behind Week 6 individual winner Ella Hall of Lenox.
The Spartans took five of the top seven positions among 19 girls finishing the season-ending slalom.
Monument Mountain also placed seven girls in the top 10 for the season, qualifying those individuals to compete in the State Championships at Berkshire East on Feb. 28.
The boys all-Berkshire County honors were more evenly distributed. Team champ Monument Mountain took three spots on the state team. Lenox, Taconic and Wahconah each grabbed two spots. Pittsfield’s Charlie Heimann will represent the Generals at the state meet.
