Pittsfield's Quinto Qualifies for State Championship

SOUTHWICK, Mass. -- Longmeadow placed four golfers at 86 or better and placed two in the top four overall Monday to win the Western Massachusetts Division 1 title at the Ranch.
 
Pittsfield’s Kevin Quinto tied for fifth place to qualify for the state championship as an individual.
 
The individual championship when to East Longmeadow’s Noah Peterson, who carded a 76 to lead his team to a second-place finish in the team standings.
 
Three golfers finished behind him at 78, and then at 80 came a group of four that included Quinto.
 
Pittsfield finished just out of the running for a team berth in the state championship. The Generals placed fourth; the top three teams qualified.
 
Quinto was joined in the 80s by teammates Jake Driscoll and Ricky Berrian at 86 and Justin Martin at 89. Pittsfield’s 341 placed it 11 strokes behind third-place Holyoke.
 
Taconic finished 11th at the sectional with a team scure of 373. Mike Kays led the way with an 84. Brett Murphy, Ross Omelenchuck and Tim Curry each scored for Taconic.
