PALMER, Mass. – Sam McLaughlin and Aiden Hagmaier pulled off a double steal in the top of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie, and the Wahconah baseball team went on to a 5-4 win over Ware on Tuesday night.

The winning rally started when James Rabuse worked a leadoff walk. He moved up into scoring position on a groundout from Scott Hoffmann and went to third when Joe Hoffmann grounded out.

McLaughlin followed by lifting a ball into right field that was mishandled, allowing Rabuse to score, making it 4-4, and McLaughlin to go all the way to third.

Hagmaier then walked on a 3-2 pitch to put runners at the corners. He and McLaughlin worked the double steal to bring in the winning run.

Luke Ferguson went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Wahconah’s offense.

He also went 3 and two-thirds innings on the mound before giving the ball to Scott Hoffmann, who delivered 3 and a third scoreless innings, striking out five, to earn the win.

Wahconah (8-1) hosts Drury on Friday.
