NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ethan Sheldon led all scorers with 19 points to help give the McCann Tech boys basketball team a 56-43 win over Pathfinder Thursday night.

Sheldon scored seven of his 19 in the third quarter, helping spark a 7-0 run early.

Adam Rodriquez chipped in with 13 of his own and Dante Cellana had 8.

With a season full of distractions, the Hornets were able to keep focus and continue to fight toward their goal all season, playoff basketball.

“All the problems we’ve had this year we are always going to fight, and I’m happy for these kids. We’re still in their and I can’t ask anything more from these kids” coach Luis Carmona said.

For Pathfinder (4-14), Andrew Roman had a nice night scoring 20 points. A.J Oliveira added 11.

The last time these two teams met McCann was beaten on the road.

The game started off a little slow on both ends of the floor. Midway through the second quarter McCann seemed to find their groove al little bit and were able to take a 23-17 lead into the break. It was the start of the second half that gave McCann a lot of hope towards winning this game. The Hornets came out strong and pushed the ball up the floor giving them an early boost.

“At halftime I figured we had to make an adjustment and go into transition,”  Carmona said. “We just wanted to change the pace of the game and attack them at the basket.”

From that point on McCann coasted to a 56-43 lead giving them a playoff birth with one more game to go.

McCann will take on Hamden Charter on the road Monday night.
