SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Darius Taliaferro scored 21 points Friday to lead the Mount Everett boys basketball team to a 63-35 win over Veritas Prep as the Eagles secured their berth in the Division 5 State Tournament.

Guthrie Davis scored 14, and Brady Carpenter added 10 for Mount Everett, which won its fifth straight and improved to 10-1 this winter.

“Great team effort tonight from start to finish,” Mount Everett coach Jowe Warren said. “Darius paced the offense and the boys shared the ball well making the right basketball decisions. Carpenter finished with another double double with 17 boards.”

Mount Everett, currently ranked fifth in the MIAA’s latest in-season power rankings, will look to improve on that standing on Wednesday when it goes to Hoosac Valley.
