Monument Mountain Wins at Clinton
CLINTON, Mass. – Finn Wheeler scored 18 points Tuesday to lead the Monument Mountain boys basketball team to a 58-53 win over Clinton.
Wheeler hit four of the Spartans’ eight 3-pointers as Monument Mountain held off a Clinton comeback try in the fourth quarter.
“We jumped out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter and stretched it to 31-11 at the half,” Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said. “It was our best defense of the year. Dom Calautti blocked five shots and had 11 defensive rebounds in the half.”
Calautti finished with 21 boards to go with his 11 points. Finn Mason scored 16, including eight in the fourth quarter, when the Spartans withstood a 14-0 run that made it 54-51 with 1 minute, 30 seconds left.
Mason went 4-for-4 at the foul line in the last 1:14 to seal the win.
“It was a good win at a tough place to win at,” Koldys said. “We are still getting used to each other and learning how to win. Tonight was a good step in the right direction for our guys. Really proud of them for hanging on.”
Monument Mountain (2-2) hosts Drury on Friday.
