POWNAL, Vt. — A Pownal man has died of injuries he sustained after his utility terrain vehicle rolled over on Saturday evening.

State Police say Ralph Wilcox, 49, of Middle Pownal Road had been taken to Albany, N.Y., Medical Center with severe head trauma following the accident. An updated police report Monday morning said he had succumbed to his injuries.

Wilcox was reportedly driving the 2020 CF Moto on Washing Brook Road about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday when he lost control and flipped the vehicle over.

State Police believe the accident was caused by driving at a high rate of speed and that alcohol use may have been a contributing factor. The accident is still under investigation.

Wilcox had two passengers, Tanya Taylor and Eric Becker, who were riding side by side with him in the Z Force 950. The vehicle is something like a dune buggy with bucket seats and a open-air rollover cage. All three occupants were thrown from the vehicle, according to the State Police report, and no one was wearing a helmet or seat restraints.

Taylor was also taken to Albany Medical.

This incident is still considered open and pending investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Justin Walker of the Shaftsbury barracks at 802-442-5421. Information can also be submitted anonymously at www.vtips.info or by texting "CRIMES" (274637) to keyword: VTIPS.
