DAVENPORT, Fla. -- The MCLA baseball team found its stride Wednesday as it closed its nine-game Florida trip with a convincing 12-4 win over Maine-Farmington this morning in Davenport.

The Trailblazers head north with a record of 5-6. The Beavers are 0-3.

Each team pushed a run across in the first inning and then MCLA grabbed the lead for good with a run in the second and then a five run outburst in the third. Taconic grad Austin Rachiele's double scored the run in the second while Ty Mazzeo had an RBI knock in the third. MCLA was the beneficiary of some Beaver wildness as they scored on two walks and a wild pitch in the frame.

Leading 7-1 after three innings, MCLA put the game out of reach with a four run fifth. Randy Adams, Mazzeo, and Robinson Guerrero-Baez each drove in runs in the inning.

The offensive support was plenty for Trailblazer starting pitcher Robert Correia. He tossed the first five innings and allowed just three hits, one earned run, and struck out five. Bryan Rosario threw the next three frames while Brett Norman closed things out with a scoreless ninth.

Adams ended 3-5 with a pair of RBI's.  Isaiah Mack and Mazzeo each ended with a pair of hits as well.

The Trailblazers take a four-game winning streak into next Wednesday's game at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

LEESBURG, Fla.-- The MCLA softball team saved their best play for the final day of its spring trip, however the Trailblazers dropped a pair of contests Thursday afternoon.

The Trailblazers held the lead for most of the game in the opener to St. Scholastica, however the Saints scored 12 runs over the final two innings to pull away for a 13-3 win. In the nightcap, MCLA's Sarah Williams threw well, but the Trailblazers had trouble stringing hits together as Augsburg defeated them 3-1.

MCLA ends the southern swing at 0-9.

St. Scholastica 13, MCLA 3

After giving up one run in the top of the first, MCLA tied things up in the bottom of the inning.  After Maddie Teta singled to lead off the contest, she would come home when Sydney Mathews was thrown out stealing.

MCLA took the lead in the second when Avianna Ibrahim launched a double to right that brought home Nicole Main for a 2-1 lead. A few batters later, Lidia Flores brought around Ibrahim to increase the lead to 3-1.

Trailblazer starter Lora Woyton was cruising as she held the Saints at bay thru five innings of action. She ran into some trouble in the sixth as the Saints scored three times to take a 4-3 lead.  Woyton came out to start the seventh, but the Saints parlayed some timely hitting and a couple MCLA miscues to score nine times and put the game away.

Main led the offense with a pair of hits and every Trailblazer collected at least one hit in the contest.

Augsburg 3, MCLA 1

In the nightcap, MCLA's Sarah Williams and Augsburg's Brynn Hostettler hooked up in a pitchers duel. Both starting pitchers went the distance as hits were hard to come by.

Augsburg grabbed an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single in the first against Williams.  She would settle down however and leave two runners stranded. Augsburg tallied two more runs in the third to increase the lead to 3-0 thru three frames.

MCLA could not solve Hostettler as the right hander took a no hitter into the fifth inning. The Trailblazers could not scratch a run across until the seventh inning however. Lora Woyton smacked a run scoring double to center field scoring Madyson Torres to cut the margin to 3-1.  Hostettler would settle down however and collect a pair of strikeouts to end the game.

Hostettler ended allowing just two hits while striking out 13 Trailblazers.

Williams had her best outing of the trip as she went all seven innings, allowed 7 hits and struck out 4.

MCLA is off until next weekend when it heads to Albertus Magnus.

Clarksburg Officials Keep PreK Program Free

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Town and school officials came together on Monday in hopes of compromising over a tight budget.

Instead, they ended up agreeing to dip into their reserves to ensure that prekindergarten program will continue free for town residents.

The Select Board had been pushing for the school budget to come in at a 2 percent increase. The School Committee on Monday was prepared to vote a budget up by $128,454, or 4.53 percent.

After an hour and a half of discussion, the school budget had gone up $1,000 to $2,967,609.58 and town officials agreed to commit $72,000 in free cash they'd wanted to set aside for the school roof.

"Your budget's gone up today not down," said Town Administrator Carl McKinney. "That's not the goal here."

"I know that," responded Supertentendent John Franzoni. "But we did what you wanted us to do."

School officials had proposed to charge $300 a month for the prekindergarten program for 4-year-olds that was expected to bring in at least $30,000 a year.
