POWNAL, Vt. — A Cheshire, Mass., man is being charged with gross negligence in operation and leaving the scene of an accident after a crash Saturday night that heavily damaged at least four parked cars. 

 

Demetrie S. Thompson, 24, was issued a citation to appear in Bennington County Court on Nov. 30. 

 

According to State Police, it was reported that a vehicle had left the roadway at about 7:30 p.m. and rammed into multiple vehicles at OD Auto Sales and Service. The location was given as Cash Place, the road that runs behind the car dealership and parallel to Route 7. 

 

It's not clear what Thompson was driving, but a pickup truck was upside-down with heavy damage to its front end near the end of the line of damaged cars, one of which had its top caved in. This can be seen in a video posted to Facebook. 

 

State Police say Thompson fled the scene and was located at a nearby residence. The vehicles "sustained either moderate or totaled damage," according to police.

 

Trooper Emmanuel Baidoo's report says the weather and road conditions were clear.
