Feb. 20 to March 20

Join the Berkshire Botanical Garden at the Fitzpatrick Greenhouse from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to welcome the new season amongst hundreds of flowering bulbs.

Day of Play with the Berkshire Museum
Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Bring your kids to explore the Big Blue Blocks and the museum's Mobile Museum Unit. There will also be self-led STEAM stations.

North Adams storyteller and scholar Desiree Taylor celebrates through story the pursuit of happiness that African Americans have taken on in an often hostile wider culture. This presentation explores the resources and hopes that people from all backgrounds and walks of life can glean inspiration from.

Apres Ski Party at Bousquet

Time: noon to 4 p.m.

The ski resort's ski party returns for a second year featuring mixes by DJ Adam Oam. Enjoy skiing and riding from 9 to 8 and drinks and tunes at Bousquet's new restaurant Drifters Bar and Restaurant.

'Curious Festival of Unfinished Works'
Adams Theater, Park Street

After a weeklong residency, puppeteers are excited to showcase their work. Bring your friends and family to enjoy a show created by David Lane.

Karaoke Party and Contest: Latin night
Methuselah Bar, Pittsfield
Time: 9 p.m.

Bring your friends and enjoy a night of singing and dancing for some great Latin-themed songs. Duet with your partner, and compete for a chance to win a $50 gift card. The winner is announced at midnight and must be present to win.

Art Call Workshop
Gallery North, North Adams
Time: 1 p.m.

Gallery North at 9 Eagle St. hosts a workshop for artists of all levels on selecting, preparing and submitting artwork to juried exhibitions and other art calls. Led local artist and curator Sean McCuster, who will provide practical advice and a demonstration on photographing artwork for submission.

Glen Meadow Loop Trail
Greylock Glen Outdoor Center, Adams
Time: 1 to 2:30 p.m.
 
Free easy-paced, 1- to 3-mile guided hikes are geared for seniors, but open to all ages. Hiking times may vary from 90 minutes to two hours. Be prepared for variable weather, wear appropriate clothing and sturdy boots.
 
Meet at the Outdoor Center on Gould Road; limited snowshoes available to reserve. Inclement weather cancels.

MCLA Selects Pennsylvania Educator as 13th President

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The board of trustees on Thursday voted 8-2 to offer the 13th presidency of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to a Pennsylvania higher education executive.

Diana L. Rogers-Adkinson is senior vice chancellor for academic and student affairs and chief academic officer for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, providing system-level leadership for 10 universities serving approximately 80,000 students.
 
"I thought she was really able to articulate the value of a liberal arts education and our mission to both society and, you know, to our students in their lives," said Trustees Buffy Lord before presenting the motion to offer her the post. "I think that she'll be a fantastic advocate for MCLA within Berkshire County, but also in Boston. You know, my sense is that she's going to be able to fight for us if it needs to happen."
 
Rogers-Adkinson accepted the post by phone immediately after the vote, pending negotiations and approval by the Board of Higher Education. 
 
She was one of four finalists for the post out of 102 completed applications. All four spent time on campus over the past month, speaking with students, faculty, trustees and community members. 
 
Trustees expounded on her experience, leadership and communication style. She was also one of two candidates, with preferred by the faculty, the college's unions and Higher Education Commissioner Noe Ortega.
 
The second candidate preferred, Michael J. Middleton, provost and vice president at Ramapo College of New Jersey, withdrew after consultation wiht his family, according to Lord.
