NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There's a sweet and loving cat looking for a new home.

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

Mischief is a 7-year-old domestic shorthair who has been at the shelter for about a month.

Executive Director Noelle Howland introduced us to her.

"She came in due to a child that had allergies, so they unfortunately couldn't keep her," she said.

Mischief is a very easygoing cat. When meeting you, she immediately wants to headbutt you and demand pets.

"She does not take long to be comfortable with people at all," said Howland. "She's social. You'll come in here and she greets you right at the door when you open the door. ... I feel like she's very easygoing. She would just do her own thing."

Because of to her easygoing nature, she can go home with anyone. She likes other cats, previously being in a home with them, and could do well with children who respect her boundaries.

"She can really go home with feel anybody. She's great with cats. She hasn't shown any issues with any of the cats here. I know she lived with two other cats in the home," Howland said. "I don't feel like she'd have any issue with kids. Sometimes she has a little bit of like I'd say like love aggression, like you'll pet her a little rough, and then sometimes she'll kind of like go to mouth at you, not doing it to be mean, but she definitely, if she gets overstimulated, she will kind of nip at you sometimes. So definitely kids that just know to give her her space when she needs it."

Howland said she could do well with dogs as well who give her her space. However, Mischief will need someone who can help her lose a few pounds with activity and good food.

"She is overweight, so making sure you're keeping her active, kind of keeping her from just kind of lounging around all day in the background because she does need to lose some weight.

She also has some trouble with her teeth so, as any older cat, make sure to stay up to date on her health examinations at the vet.

"She does have mild dental disease, just being an older cat. So that's just something you'll have to just keep an eye on, like after that good routine checkups. Otherwise, she's very healthy."

Howland said although mischief is older, she still has a lot of life to give and hopes it doesn't deter anyone from giving her a loving home she deserves.

"I know people seeing a 7-year-old cat, they consider that like a senior," she said. "So I would definitely tell like I know cats can live for a very long time, so I just don't want that to steer people away from adopting her because she really is the sweetest. I feel like the perfect cat somebody could look for.
