Pittsfield YMCA, Youth Indoor Soccer League- boys and girls 3rd to 5th grade

The Pittsfield Family YMCA is now accepting registrations for its Youth Indoor Soccer League for all boys and girls ages 3 to 5th grade. Held in the Y’s gym, the league’s dates are from Feb. 28-April 18.

Indoor Soccer is a 8-week league designed to keep your children moving during the cold winter months. Children learn fundamental soccer skills, the rules of the game and sportsmanship values by knowledgeable volunteer coaches. Children will be given a T-shirt with their team name and number on it, as well as an end-of-the-year award. During the hour-long games, the score is not kept. This is not a travel league.

Three divisions are available: The Tappers division is for ages 3 and 4. All Tappers games will run on Saturday mornings. The Mini-Kickers division is for K-1st grade, and the Kickers division is for 2nd-5th grades. All Tappers play Saturday mornings. Mini-Kickers and Kickers will play Saturday mornings or possibly a weeknight (depending on number of participants registered).

Cost of the league: Members: $40. Non-members: $65. To become a member, an annual youth membership is $36. It is the parents and players responsibility to provide shin guards.

Pittsfield YMCA, Floor Hockey program for students in grades 2-5

The Pittsfield Family YMCA is annoucing open registrations for its NEW! Floor Hockey program for students in grades 2-5. The program runs Tuesdays, Feb. 24-April 14, 6-7 p.m.

Floor Hockey is a NEW league held in the Y’s gymnasium. It is designed to keep your children moving through the cold months. Children learn fundamental floor hockey skills, the rules of the game and sportsmanship values by knowledgeable volunteer coaches. Volunteer coaches are always needed!

Program date: Tuesdays, Feb. 24-April 14, 6-7 p.m. Cost is members: $40 and non-members: $65.

Pittsfield YMCA, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class

The Pittsfield Family YMCA announces open registrations for its American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class with Waterfront Module. A free required Pre-Course Swim Test will be held on Feb. 5.

Participants will learn lifeguarding skills with the waterfront module, how to perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, how to use an AED, and necessary first-aid skills. Upon successful course completion, participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Waterfront Module, American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Lifeguard, and American Red Cross Basic First Aid.

Participants must be at least 15 years old and have access to a computer for online learning.
All participants must pass the free Pre-Course Swim Test held on Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. Class participants receive a CPR resuscitation mask and whistle.

After passing the test, participants must register online with the American Red Cross within 24 hours. The American Red Cross registration: $35. Participants then can register for the class at the Y. The Classes meet Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 10-11, from 5-9 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 13 from 4-6 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Feb. 17-19 from 5-9 p.m. Members: $240. Non-members: $265

Pittsfield YMCA/Greylock Credit Union, Free Youth Program

The Pittsfield Family YMCA is proud to partner with Greylock Federal Credit Union. Through a generous grant, Greylock helps to support the Y through youth programs.

Greylock Youth Club members receive one free program at the Pittsfield Family YMCA! Applicable youth programs are those valued up to $50 and include Swim Lessons, Indoor Soccer, Gymnastics and Floor Hockey. A YMCA annual youth membership is required.

To receive a free program, Greylock Youth Club members can simply pick up their free ticket at any Greylock Federal Credit Union branch and bring it to the Pittsfield Family YMCA.  Limit one program per Youth Club member. Tickets are valid up through May 2015.

Pittsfield YMCA, SilverSneakers classes

The Pittsfield Family YMCA announces that it has added additional SilverSneakers classes due to the classes’ popularity! Classes are free for eligible seniors from now until September 30, 2015.

Funded by a grant from the Elder Services of Berkshire County, Inc. and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, the Y’s SilverSneakers classes strive to increase heart-healthy endurance, muscle strength, balance and coordination to reduce injuries and falls. Specifically designed for seniors, the classes allow people of all ages to meet new friends, reconnect with others and try something new.

SilverSneakers Classic meets Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:30-10:45 a.m. NEW SilverSneakers Classic classes have been added to Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30-2:15 p.m.! Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support

SilverSneakers Cardio meets Fridays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Get moving with an aerobics class that’s safe, heart-healthy and gentle on the joints. The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your active lifestyle.

Eligible seniors must be at least 60 years old. Preference will be given to low-income seniors. To participate, visit the Y at 292 North Street to receive 2 free passes to SilverSneakers classes with the possibility of continued free guest access until September 30, 2015.
