Lee Middle and High School is hosting a meeting on Thursday September 3rd at 5:00 in the Auditorium at LMHS to discuss the use of Athletic Fields at Lee Middle and High School and booster club activities. Anyone from the community that is interested in field use for high school athletics or community athletics should attend. A presentation on the future of booster clubs at LMHS will also take place. The fall pre-season athletic meeting for all parents and athletes will take place at 6:00 the same evening in the Z.

Registration for the 2015/2016 Youth season will be held Wednesday, September 2 from 6-8pm. This years registration will be $12. League prices will stay the same from last season. If you are unable to register on September 2nd, you will be able to register on the morning league starts on September 12th. If you are playing a fall sport, don't worry, we will make sure to hold your spot. We are really excited to kickoff the new season and start having fun on the lanes. We hope to see you soon

Pittsfield YMCA, Try outs for new swimmers for Polar Bears Swim Team

The Pittsfield Family YMCA announces try outs for new swimmers for its Polar Bears Swim Team for youths and teens ages 6-18 years old. Program dates are Sept. 8 until early February 2015.

Through spirited competition, participants will learn how to reach their potential in this water sport for children ages 6-18 years old. Practices and competitions focus on skills development, teamwork and confidence building. Practice is scheduled according to age and ability with certified and experienced swim coaches. All swim team participants MUST have a membership. All sessions are held in the Y’s pool, 292 North Street.

Three age and ability-based categories are available: Cubs (ages 6-12) meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 5-6 p.m.; Juniors (ages 7-14) meet Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 6-7:30 p.m.; and Seniors (ages 11-18) meet Mondays-Fridays, 5:45-7:45 p.m. $375.

The program fee is $225 for Cubs, $350 for Juniors, and $375 for Seniors. Program fees must be paid in full at signup or 50% at signup and 50% on Dec. 19, 2015 by automatic payment. A sibling discount is available. Swim Team participation requires a membership. A youth membership, for those children up through 12 years old, is $36/year.  A teen (13-18 years old) membership is $15/month by automatic payments.

Tryouts are required for all swimmers new to the Polar Bears Swim Team and to be arranged directly with Coach Tim at tim.grace.coach@gmail.com. Please note that if a swimmer has been on the team in the past, no tryout is necessary. Swimmers will need to purchase some of their own equipment. Registration forms for all participants can be obtained from Coach Tim.

Pittsfield YMCA, Youth Outdoor Soccer League

The Pittsfield Family YMCA announces open registrations for its Youth Outdoor Soccer League for all boys and girls ages 3 to 8th grade. Held at Berkshire Community College’s field behind the Paterson Field House, the league’s dates are from Sept. 12 to Oct. 31.

The 8-week program is designed to be instructional in nature and non-competitive in practice in that the score is not kept. Children will learn fundamental soccer skills, the rules of the games and sportsmanship values by knowledgeable volunteer coaches.

Five divisions are available: The Tappers division is for ages 3 and 4. The Mini Kickers division is for kindergarten and 1st graders. The Kickers is for 2nd and 3rd graders. Juniors is for 4th-5th graders and Seniors is for 6th-8th graders.

All divisions will play on Saturdays. However, the Kickers, Juniors and Seniors will also practice once during the week.

On Sept. 12, all Kickers, Juniors and Seniors will report to BCC at 9 a.m. All Tappers and Mini-Kickers will report to BCC at 11 a.m. Coaches and teams will be assigned at these times, and teams will split up and practice. A schedule will then be defined with start times of 9 a.m., 10:15, 11:30, 12:45 and possibly 2 p.m.

Cost of the league: Members: $40. Non-members: $65. To become a member, an annual youth membership is $36. Children will be given a T-shirt, as well as an end-of-the-year award. This is not a travel league. It is the parents and players’ responsibility to provide shin guards and sneakers.

Knowledgeable volunteer coaches are also needed.

CYC and Pittsfield YMCA, CYC/YMCA Flag Football League 5-8 yr olds
Dates: • 07/23 through 09/10 at 8:00 am until 5:00 pm

The CYC and Pittsfield Family YMCA are now accepting registrations for a new Flag Football league. League dates are Mondays, Sept. 14-Oct. 12, for boys and girls ages 5-8 years.

Flag Football provides young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship. Players will learn basic principles such as throwing, catching and running. Flag Football provides a fun, positive experience for children through on-the-field instruction.

League dates are Mondays, Sept. 14-Oct. 12, for boys and girls ages 5-8 years. All games will be played at St. Marks School, 400 Columbus Ave. in Pittsfield. Volunteer coaches are also needed. Please note your interest in becoming a volunteer coach on the registration form.

The cost of the league is $25 for Y members and $70 for non-members. A YMCA youth membership is $36/year. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Register at the Y, 292 North Street in Pittsfield or at the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center, 165 East St every Tuesday, or at Downtown Pittsfield’s Third Thursday.
