Trio Charged In Early Morning Arrests

By Susan Bush
12:00AM / Monday, April 17, 2006

Williamstown - An early morning April 17 motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of three people, with the driver charged with drunken driving and two vehicle passengers each charged with assault and battery on a police officer. A total of 10 charges were brought against the trio, police said.

Mark Dillard, 20, of 50 Spring St., North Adams, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Laura E. Shea, 18, of 91 Cliff St., North Adams, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and vandalizing property.

The vehicle driver, Britni Gustafson, 18, of 43 Mill St., Adams, was charged with drunken driving, being a person under the age of 21 years old in possession of alcoholic beverages, speeding, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

According to police, the vehicle was stopped for an alleged speeding violation near Field Park at 1:45 a.m.. Police conducted an investigation during the stop and subsequently arrested Gustafson.

Police said that Dillard was initially placed under protective custody because of alleged intoxication, but after he allegedly refused to follow police instructions and became combative, police arrested him.

While police were dealing with Dillard, Shea allegedly got out of the vehicle and police allege that she became physically and verbally abusive to police officers. Police said that pepper spray was used to subdue Shea. She was then arrested.

Shea, Dillard, and Gustafson were subsequently released pending a scheduled April 25 Northern Berkshire District Court arraignment.

North Adams police officers assisted town police Officer Shuan William and Officer Amalio Jusino during the incident.
