North Adams - Richard Palmisano, chief executive officer of Northern Berkshire Healthcare, has announced the appointment of three new members of the senior management team of NBH.

Maria Basescu joined Northern Berkshire Healthcare this summer as Vice-president of External Affairs. In this capacity she provides direction to strategic communications, outreach and development programs, and works to represent NBH with local, state and federal government and other community organizations.

Basescu has previously led marketing, communications and outreach
efforts in government, healthcare, higher education, and technology
organizations, including Retreat Healthcare, the Marlboro College Graduate and Technology Center and the undergraduate college, Emerson College's Division of Performing Arts, and the Boston Mayor's Office of Business and Cultural Development. She has also been President of Annapurna Concerts, a concerts and cultural events production company. Basescu is a member of the New England College of Healthcare Executives. She holds a degree in Sociology from Dartmouth College and is a graduate of the Snelling Center

Arthur Scott comes to Northern Berkshire Healthcare as Vice-president of Human Resources, overseeing human resources functions, continuing education, and compliance. Scott spent eight years at Marlboro College, where he served in various capacities including vice president of strategy and business development and vice president of finance and administration. He has also worked at Brattleboro Retreat where he was senior vice president for finance and administration. He recently earned certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and is a member of the board of directors of the Berkshire County Regional Employment Board. Scott
earned his bachelor's degree at Keene State College in New Hampshire, and holds a master's degree in business administration from Plymouth State College.

Jennifer Rush joins NBH as Vice President of Quality and Risk Management. In that role, Ms. Rush is responsible for implementing and monitoring processes that help NBH facilities meet "best practice" standards and achieve the best possible clinical outcomes. Rush has 16 years in non-profit management experience with expertise in team building, conflict management, and performance improvement processes. Rush opened Hillcrest Educational Centers' intensive treatment unit in Hancock in 1993, and most recently spent the last six years at the Brattleboro Retreat in Quality and Risk Management. Rush earned her bachelor's degree from Barnard College in New York City.

"Maria, Art, and Jennifer bring a wealth of experience and talent to
our local health care system," said Palmisano.

"Our system is making terrific strides this year. With our new senior managers joining a very strong and dedicated executive team - and the hundreds of employees of Northern Berkshire Healthcare at our side - I'm confident that we will continue to see even better results."
