Women's Day Conference At Simon's Rock College

MCLA President Mary K. Grant will participate at a Women's Day Conference at the Simon;s Rock College on March 24.
Great Barrington –Simon’s Rock College, in collaboration with Berkshire Friends of UNIFEM, the Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts and the Women’s Interfaith Institute of the Berkshires, is proud to present the Sixth Annual International Women’s Day Conference on Sat,, March 24, 9 a.m - 5 p.m..

This unique one-day conference will host ten international and local speakers who will gather to present on this years’ theme “From Literacy to Leadership: Education Empowering Women Worldwide.”

The conference will address issues affecting women both locally and internationally while examining the successes and challenges of educational policy across the globe.

Some conference highlights include presentations on the new Asian University for Women in Bangladesh and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s educational initiatives for women in Liberia. The conference will also feature a distinguished panel of college presidents including Dr. Joanne Creighton, (President of Mount Holyoke College) Dr. Mary Grant, (President of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts) and Dr. Mary Marcy, (Provost and Vice President of Simon’s Rock College)

Other distinguished presenters include Dr. Emily Vargas-Barón, an international educational policy specialist and Director of the Institute for Reconstruction in Washington D.C, Vivian Lowery Derryck, Senior Vice-President of the Academy for Educational Development in Washington, D.C. and Fahima Vorgetts, founding board member of Women for Afghan Women based in both New York and Washington, D.C.



Special performances will be given by students in the Simon’s Rock theater program as well as Youth Alive! African American Girls’ STEP Dance Troupe.
