FIRST CHILD IN THE WOODS

Where: Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary 
 
Description: Join us for the perfect introduction to nature. This one-hour hike will enable your child or children, birth to 5 years old, to gently discover the natural world around them and give you skills to confidently lead explorations of your own. This is an opportunity to explore the changing nature and beauty of Pleasant Valley with your youngster each month.

YES! THE SUFFRAGISTS HAD SWAG!
Adams, 2 p.m.
Maybe you know that American women won the vote in 1920. But how did they do it? In this suffrage show-and-tell, author Nancy B. Kennedy shares artifacts and photos from the 72-year fight for the woman’s vote using her children's book, “Women Win the Vote! 19 for the 19th Amendment.” Following the program, children will have the opportunity to make their own inspirational pin. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, email info@susanbanthonybirthplace.org   Who is the speaker? Nancy B. Kennedy is a journalist and the author of eight books. She was born in Rochester, New York, where suffragist Susan B. Anthony lived as an adult. For many years, she worked in newspapers and magazines as a reporter and editor. Her books have been praised by Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal and Booklist. Nancy lives in Hopewell, NJ, with her husband, John.   Where and when will it take place? The event will take place on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 PM in the G.A.R. Memorial Hall of the Adams Free Library in Adams, MA. Elevator access through the doors on Melrose street.

"AFTER THE THAW" - GUILD OF BERKSHIRE ARTISTS EXHIBIT OPENING
Sandisfield, 4 - 6 p.m.

A Free and Public Reception for the exhibition will be on May 4, 2024, from 4-6pm at the Sandisfield Arts Center, 5 Hammertown Road, Sandisfield, MA 01255. The exhibit runs until May 31st, 2024. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 11 am - 3 pm and by appointment. Call (310) 970-4517  “After the Thaw” is a theme derived from the anticipatory time of year when New Englanders joyfully greet the burgeoning signs of spring: blooming flowers, green grass emerging through softening ground, and increased visitations of the sun. The selected artists all have a unique interpretation of the theme, from the literal to more abstract. A variety of media will be included and sure to delight every viewer. The Guild of Berkshire Artists (GBA) is a vital, active, nonprofit visual arts organization that supports and promotes its members through education, exhibits, and community events while contributing to the cultural life of the Berkshires.

THE WEST STOCKBRIDGE JAZZ SERIES PRESENTS HANEEF NELSON
W. Stockbridge, 7 p.m.
Haneef Nelson is a New York born and raised trumpeter, educator, and composer. His lifelong love of music started with his early studies at the famed Jazzmobile program in Harlem. At the Jazzmobile he studied trumpet, music theory, as well as played in ensembles taught by jazz luminaries including Eddie Preston, Cecil Bridgewater, Dr. Donald Byrd; John Stubblefield; Frank Foster; Charles Davis; Roland Guerrero. Donald Byrd continued to be a mentor along with his high school music teachers Cedric J. Lemmie from Uniondale High School and Dave Burns from the Long Island High School of the Arts.   Haneef has performed with jazz greats Yoron Israel, Avery Sharpe, Bill Saxton, Paul Brown, and Charles Tolliver.  His original music and arrangements for Big Band have been featured around the world and on the records of the New London Big Band. He holds a Bachelor of Music in African American Music Study from the University of Hartford, a Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition and Arranging from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and he will receive his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Composition from the University of Hartford in May 2024. For this performance Haneef will be joined by Michael Carabello-keyboard, Matt Dwonszyk-bass and Akin Hobson-drums.    OLD TOWN HALL, 9 MAIN ST, WEST STOCKBRIDGE
