John M. Cooper, 77
FLORIDA, Mass. - John Melford "Jack" Cooper, 77, a longtime resident of the town of Florida, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his home in North Fort Myers, Fla.Born in North Adams on June 8, 1937, son of Joseph Cooper and Aileen Peck Cooper Booth, he attended schools in North Adams. He also had resided in Williamstown.
Mr. Cooper was last employed for many years at Morrison Berkshire. He had earlier worked at James Hunter Machine, Unistress Corp., BW Construction and Peoples Market.
He was a 20-year member of the Florida Fire Department and a member the National Guard. While a resident of the state of Florida, he was a member of the Chapel of Windmill Village. He loved camping, hunting and fishing, bowling, golf and horseshoes. He best enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Anywhere and everywhere he went, he made a friend and he would help anyone.
He and his wife, the former Edna May Tatro, were married on Aug. 28, 1954.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he leaves four sons and their wives, John D. and Beverly Cooper, Douglas A. and Diana Cooper, Bruce C. and Karen Cooper and Jay W. and Terri Cooper and his wife, Terri; three daughters and their husbands, Linda M. and Michael Brule, Marianne and Brian Matteson and Kelly and John Horn; a brother, Thomas Cooper; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and leaves sisters- and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Brian Cooper, grandson Charles Cooper, his sister, Carolyn Briggs, and brothers Roger Cooper and Leonard Cooper.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A funeral service for Mr. Cooper will be celebrated on Tuesday July 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 at the funeral home.
