Carolyn M. Briggs, 68

FLORIDA, Mass. - Carolyn Mae Briggs, 68, of 40 Moores Road died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at home. Born in North Adams on Sept. 9, 1935, daughter of Aileen Peck Cooper Booth and the late Joseph Cooper, she attended elementary school in Clarksburg and Drury High School in North Adams. She moved to Florida in 1960. Mrs. Briggs was employed for six years at the Where'd You Get That? shop in Williamstown until poor health forced her retirement several years ago. Before that, she was employed by Waverly Fabrics in Adams for 11 years, and by the former Sprague Electric and former Hunter Outdoor Products companies in North Adams. She was a longtime member and former president of the Florida Volunteer Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She and her husband, Charles L. Briggs, were married April 11, 1953. Besides her husband and mother, of North Adams, she leaves three brothers, John M. Cooper of Williamstown, Thomas Cooper of Clarksburg and Leonard Cooper of North Adams; two sisters-in-law, Edna Cooper and Dorine Cooper; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A brother, Roger Cooper, predeceased her. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mrs. Briggs will be conducted Monday, Oct. 27, at noon at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Irving Mullette, pastor of Florida Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Monday from 10 until the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the Florida Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
