Charles L. Briggs, 81
FLORIDA, Mass. — Charles Linwood Briggs, 81, of 40 Moores Road died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Sweet Brook Care Centers. He was the fire chief for the town of Florida for 23 years.
Born in Adams on Nov. 8, 1930, son of Richard L. and Florence LaFountain Briggs, he attended Adams schools including the former Adams High School.
He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Briggs was employed for 33 years with K&M Motors in North Adams until his retirement.
He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church in Adams. He was fire chief from 1975 to 1998.
His wife, the former Carolyn Cooper, whom he married on April 11, 1953, died on Oct. 11, 2003.
He leaves two brothers, Bradley Briggs of Hinsdale and Raymond Briggs of Florida, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
His siblings Richard Briggs Jr., Roger Briggs, Phoebe Pelkey and Pearl Pfister predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Briggs will be Tuesday, April 10, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 9, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Volunteer Fire Department or the Florida Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
