Update on Children's Memorial Park03-11-2008
To the Editor:
I would like to update you on the Children's Memorial Park since last summer's wonderful article by Sue Bush. We now have $22,000.
The past two fundraisers were a huge success. Our committee sent out 200 letters to most of the businesses from South County to Southern Vermont. We got a 10 percent response, raising $4,500. The average donation was $100, but we did get a few much bigger. Thank you to all who felt this is a worthy cause.
The annual Valentine's Day Father/Daughter Dance brought in $4,500.
Thank you to: Terri and Jay Cooper, Marie Harpin, Quadlands, Mount Williams, Val's Variety, Persnickey, Where'd You Get That, The Party Store, my committee and especially Tom, Kris, Allie and Miranda Bona, Matt LeFavre; Clarksburg teachers, parents, students, the junior high Student Council and their teachers Mark Karhan, Nancy McShane, Gary Johnson and Sue Rowe; the deejay Chris Ware, some Hoosac Valley High School students, Lynda Field and her niece, Sue and Jim Boyle, Mrs. Cantoni and, of course, all those who came and donated food or drink. We really appreciate it.
Recently, we sent out letters to bereaved parents or siblings to purchase pavers for their child or sibling that will be placed at the memorial. The $250 for each paver will also help to build, maintain and offer scholarships for those unable to purchase one.
Our next fundraiser will be at Zucchini's in Pittsfield on Monday, March 24, at 6 p.m. It will be a Home Goods party. Refreshments will be served and all proceeds will go to the memorial fund. Call 413-663-3555 if you are interested in attending the party or would like to order from the catalog.
We have tried our best to come up with all the names of local departed children, however, there is such a huge number and we think of more every day; we are sure we have forgotten some or don't know who or where to send the letters. If you know of anyone who would like to be contacted or if you would like to purchase a paver, make a donation, or help in any way, please contact me, again, at 413-663-3555.
Thank you,
Donna Bona Morgan
