Gilbert Francis Ryan, 85

CLARKSBURG, Mass. —

On April 2, 2024, Gilbert Francis Ryan, affectionately known as “Gib” passed away at Berkshire Medical Center located in Pittsfield, MA with family by his side. He was living at his home in Clarksburg at the time of his death.

Born on December 27, 1938, Gib attended high school in Adams, MA and enrolled in the Navy when only17 years old. He served honorably during the Vietnam War from 1956 until 1959. After his service, he returned to Adams where he married his beloved wife Lucille (Gagner).

Gib’s legacy is carried on by his family: his four children: Cheryl Ryan (John Kut), Deborah Ryan (John Treacy), Michael Ryan (Lisa Jette), and Daniel Ryan (Erin Campbell). Gib was enthusiastic about his 11 grandchildren: Elizabeth “Libby”, Siobhan, Sean Michael, Margaret, Nicholas, Sean Peter, Patrick, Madison, Timothy, Christopher, and Jason, and two great granddaughters Claire and Blake. He leaves behind his sisters Bernice Wright, Eleanor Hobart, Joanne Biron, Kathy Biron, and his brother David Ryan. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille (Gagner), his parents, Alfred and Irene Ryan (Suprenant) and his brother Alfred Ryan. Gib further leaves behind a host of extended family members, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gib was industrious, beginning his career at General Electric. He then became an entrepreneur, opening Gibby’s Package and Variety Store and later Ryan’s Insurance, both businesses on Columbia Street in Adams, MA.

Gib loved playing softball in the Adams Men’s League, bringing his young children to watch his games. He was named the MVP for his team Rick’s Auto Sales. An avid fan of basketball, baseball and football, Gib passionately rooted for the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots as well as many other college teams, losing sleep when his team didn’t win. He became very interested in politics and the news and was knowledgeable about current affairs.

To honor Gib’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no formal services.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Homes, 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, MA 01247.
