Danforth H. Blanchard, 94
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Danforth Henry "Red" Blanchard, 94, of Venice, Fla., and a former longtime resident of Clarksburg, died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in North Adams on July 19, 1920, son of Danforth V. and Doretta Brown Blanchard, he attended North Adams schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 84th Infantry Division "Rail Splitters."
Mr. Blanchard was employed by the Hunter Machine Co. for more than 30 years, until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Adams. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and the activities at his park in Florida. He also enjoyed woodworking. In his younger years, he assisted his family in many home-building projects.
His wife, the former Mildred "Millie" Clark, whom he married on July 20, 1940, died on April 29, 2007.
He leaves his daughter, Connie M. Lincoln and her husband, Robert, of Clarksburg; a brother, Lyle Blanchard of North Adams; two granddaughters, Robbin Simonetti and her husband, Mark, and Tammy Meranti and her husband, Stephen, all of Clarksburg; three great-grandchildren, Sara Bernard, Mitchell Meranti and Matthew Meranti, and nieces and nephews.
Three sisters and one brother predeceased him, Doris Gaudette, Muriel Goodrich, Charlotte Blanchard, and Ralph Blanchard.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Blanchard will be Saturday May 30, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of North Adams. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
