Walter A. Duquette Sr., 86

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Walter Arthur Duquette Sr., 86, of 178 Fuller Ave., Corning, N.Y., formerly of North Adams, died Saturday at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y.

Born in Westmoreland, N.H., on Nov. 17, 1915, son of Arthur and Elsie Wilkinson Duquette, he attended schools in Southbridge.

He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard in North Adams during World War II.

He moved to North Adams at a young age and was employed with the former Sprague Electric Co. He was later employed for more than 25 years as a foreman for Lane Construction Co., retiring in 1980. After his retirement, he moved to New York state.

Mr. Duquette was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in North Adams and of St. Mary's Church in Corning. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Corningand a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 310 of North Adams.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting and playing cards.

His first wife, the former Doris Mary LaBonte, whom he married June 4, 1938, in Notre Dame Church, died Dec. 4, 1990.

He and his wife, the former Bernice Arnott Ross, were married Dec. 5, 1993, in Corning.

Besides his wife, he leaves six daughters, Lorraine Dupre of North Adams, Annette Talbot of Adams, Ruth Skiffington of Snow Camp, N.C., and Linda DelRatez, Janet Duquette and Dawn Wilson, all of Corning; seven sons, Raymond Duquette and John Duquette, both of Adams, Edward Duquette of Cheshire, William Duquette Sr. of the town of Florida, Arthur Duquette of Burlington, N.C., James Duquette of Corning and Walter A. Duquette Jr. of Bushnell, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Carole Ross of Rochester, N.Y., and Geraldine Thompson of Boytown, Texas; two stepsons, Robert Ross and Bruce Ross, both of Corning; three sisters, Lillian Stednitz of Westminster, Calif., Ruth Smith of Yucaipa, Calif., and Beatrice Duquette of North Adams; a brother, Adelard Duquette of Mojave Valley, Ariz; 35 grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 36 stepgreat-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-great grandchildren.

A daughter, Ellen Duquette, died Jan. 14, 1948, a sister, Marion Perry, and a brother, John Duquette.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral will be Thursday, March 14, at 10 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a service at 11 at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church, East Main Street, North Adams. Burial in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, March 13, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9.
