Salvatore Mangano, 72

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Salvatore Joseph "Sammy" Mangano, 72, formerly of 378 Cottrell Road, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and of North Adams, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, where he had resided since 1996. Born in North Adams on Dec. 29, 1929, son of Carmine and Giuseppina Esposito Mangano, he was educated in local schools. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1952 as a private, first class, with Company A of the 40th Signal Construction Battalion in Europe. Following his discharge, he returned to North Adams for a short time and then moved to Hoosick Falls. Mr. Mangano was employed with Bennington Paper Co. in Walloomsac, N.Y., for more than 40 years. He retired in 1995. He first worked as an electrical bridge-crane operator with GE in Pittsfield prior to entering the service. While in North Adams, Mr. Mangano was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He leaves two daughters, Josephine Camacho of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Lisa Mangano of North Adams; four sisters, Angelina Damiano of Westfield, Mary LaDame, Catherine Giorgenti and Josephine Trimarchi, all of North Adams, and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, in infancy, and two sisters and three brothers, Carmella Mangano, Annie Caprari, John Mangano, Thomas Mangano and Frank Mangano. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Mangano will be Monday, Aug. 5, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Center, 68 Marshall St. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Church or any charity through the funeral home, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
