Augustino A. Jammallo, 79

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Augustino Anthony Jammallo, 79, of 81 Veazie St. died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after two months of failing health. Born in North Adams on June 14, 1923, son of Joseph and Catherine Maria Gerace Jammallo, he was educated in local schools, including Drury High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a private, first class, medical aide with the Detachment Medical Department of the 231st Station Hospital in the European theater. Mr. Jammallo was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. as a foreman in the shipping department, retiring in 1975 after more than 32 years of service. Before that, he worked at the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. Following his retirement, he worked with the Williams College custodial services for 14 years, retiring in 1989. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He was a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and the Sprague Retirees. He and his wife, the former Anna Mae Walker, were married June 21, 1947, in St. Francis' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katherine Ann Michalenko of North Adams; a son, Joseph Michael Jammallo and his wife, Sherry Spiller Jammallo, of Swampscott; two sisters, Teresa Jammallo and Rita Maroni, both of North Adams; a brother, Saverio Jammallo of North Adams, and three grandchildren, Lauren Jammallo, Jason Jammallo and Philip Michalenko, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Angelena Colo on Oct. 10, 2002, and Mary B. Jammallo on March 2, 2002. FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Mr. Jammallo will be Friday, Dec. 6, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony's Parish Center, 64 Marshall St., celebrated by the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
