Dorothy L. Marchio, 87

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Dorothy Louise Marchio, 87, of 85 Eagle St., St. Joseph's Court, died Sunday morning, March 14, 2004, at North Adams Commons, where she had resided since October 2002. Born in North Adams on Feb. 18, 1917, daughter of Frederick and Harriet Eaton Eldridge, she graduated from Drury High School and from the former Bliss Business College. Mrs. Marchio had been employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for many years, retiring in 1979. Before that, she was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. After her retirement, she worked as a switchboard operator at the former Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, Vt. She was a member of First Universalist Church. Her ancestors came to America on the Mayflower, and she was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, walking and dancing. She and her husband, Joseph Francis Marchio, were married Feb. 19, 1938, in Greenfield. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Patti-Jo Morey of Tucson, Ariz., and Jean L. Marchio of Clarksburg; a son, John P. "Jack" Marchio of Rockledge, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Koloc and Barbara Davine, both of North Adams; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. - FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside committal services and burial for Mrs. Marchio will be Tuesday, March 16, at 11 at the family lot in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
