NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Since SPC Michael R DeMarsico was killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 16, 2012, the community has come together to honor and remember him.

One way this has happened is through the SPC Michael R DeMarsico Scholarship Fund and the 5k race which raises money for it. One of the most memorable moments of this past year's "Up Front for DeMar" 5k run and 1-mile walk, was when the entire Drury football team arrived at the starting line in uniform, the same uniform Michael once wore himself.

Race director Eileen Monyahan, said "I was overwhelmed by the support we got from coach Seth Shephard and the football team this year. Within minutes of reaching out to the team, I had a message saying they were interested in participating - that night I was sent their entire roster."

When the Drury Football Team decided to do a T-shirt fundraiser this spring, they once again thought of SPC Michael R DeMarisco and honoring him. The shirt has Michael's No. 31 on it and dog tags, along with "Drury Football is Always Up Front for SPC Michael DeMarsico.”

The fundraising campaign raised $1,100 in just a few weeks and the team donated half of the money raised to the SPC Michael DeMarsico Scholarship Fund. Members of the team this month presented a check in the amount of $550.00 to Michael's parents on the steps of Drury High School.
