Wahconah Pounds Frontier in Western Mass Semis
DALTON, Mass. -- Will Geneway threw for three touchdowns and Tanner Hastings ran in a pair to help lift the Wahconah football team to a 54-8 win over Frontier on Friday in the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Division 4 playoffs.
Top-seeded Wahconah (8-1) advances to meet No. 3 Palmer, a 20-15 winner over South Hadley on Friday night in the other semi-final. According to the MIAA website on Friday night, that game is scheduled for Saturday at Holyoke High School at a time to be announced.
On Friday night, Wahconah roared to a 54-0 lead before the visitors were able to get on the board in the fourth quarter.
Tom Burris got things started when he caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Geneway. Connor Noyes scored on a 2-yard run to make it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Wahconah exploded for 27 points in the third to effectively put the game away.
Hastings scored twice, including a 43-yarder. And Geneway threw TDs to Sam Henderson and Connor Washburn in the quarter.
In the third, Mike Fortin returned a fumble 60 yards for a score, and P.J. Pharmer scored from 22 yards out.
