PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- A 10-2 record, a third-quarter lead in the state title game and the region's best showing to date in four years of the current state tournament format were not quite enough to sway all the voters in the final Western Mass High School Football Media Poll.

Wahconah did end up the season with the top spot in the weekly Top 10, but it only garnered four out of a possible eight first-place votes in the survey of Berkshire County and Pioneer Valley media outlets.

Wahconah finished with 75 points -- 10 more than second place Westfield. But the Bombers finished with two first place votes, as did Taconic, which finished third overall.

Wahconah was the lone Western Mass team to beat a Central Mass opponent and advance to the state finals.

Springfield Central, which finished the season with three losses and failed to make its sectional title game, finished fourth in the poll -- two spots ahead of a Turners Falls team that went undefeated in the regular season and won a Western Mass title.

Berkshire County's other representative in the final Top 10, Mount Greylock, finished in the NO. 10 spot.

The poll, organized by the Berkshire Eagle, includes voters from the Eagle, Greenfield Recorder, Daily Hampshire Gazette, Berkshire Courier and iBerkshires.com.
