BUCKLAND, Mass. - - It was a one-sided affair Friday at Mohawk Regional High School as the Mount Greylock Mounties (6-0) downed Mohawk, 46-14.

The Mounties came out strong, scoring in just four plays on a 28-yard touchdown throw from Michael Wellspeak. Sean McCormack hauled in the catch and grabbed another TD, giving him two touchdowns and 78 yards receiving.

Wellspeak threw for 142 yards and four touchdowns.

The Mounties also had a strong ground attack with multiple players gaining good yardage giving them a good balance of offense.

“We try to give the ball to a lot of different players. That’ also apart of our balance,” Mount Greylock coach Andrew Agostini said. “We feel like we can hit any part of the field and that balance has been apart of our offense all year."

Mohawk (3-3) tried its best to counter the Mounties’ attack and was able to get a score with a big fourth down conversion leading to a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Cal Messina took one back for an 80-yard touchdown and ended all hope for the Warriors. Mount Greylock added on a fumble recovery right before the half giving it a 40-6 lead at the break.

For Mohawk, Jonathan Herbert broke out for 124 yards rushing while teammate Jordan Grenier added 84 yards. It was a solid ground attack for the Warriors, but they were unable to finish drives off against a stingy Mounties defense.

Second half action was more of a formality for Mount Greylock as they came out running the ball to move the clock. Mount Greylock will now look to continue their winning ways against a tough Lee Wildcats team next week at home.

“Big game against Lee they are a very good team their tough, physical and well coached they have a lot of good players, It’s going to be a huge one, but we will be ready” Agostini said.

As for Mohawk, it will head on the road to play Drury High School next Saturday.
