CHESHIRE, Mass. – The Hoosac Valley boys soccer team Thursday scored four straight second-half goals to earn a 5-1 win over McCann Tech.

Senior David Scholz scored a pair of goals on a Senior Day when all four of the Hurricanes’ 12th-graders made their mark.

Ian Godfrey had a goal and an assist. Jack Martin set up a goal. And classmate Wesley Emerson made eight saves as Hoosac Valley improved to 10-3-2 this fall.

It was a first half dominated by midfield play and frustration in the final third for both teams until 35th minute, when Scholz scored from deep on the right wing with an assist from Godfrey.

After regrouping down 1-0 at half-time, McCann Tech got back into the game just 3 minutes, 47 seconds into the second half when Zach Gelinas centered a ball from the right wing into the 18, and Hayden Bona was there to make the finish and level the score.

It stayed that way for eight minutes, but then the Hurricanes took control.

The problems started for the Hornets when they were whistled for a handball in the 18 in the 52nd minute.

Scholz took the penalty kick and buried it to give his team the lead for good.

Hoosac Valley tacked on an insurance goal eight minutes later when Cason Bernier sent a through ball forward for Rohlfs, who finished to make it 3-1.

With just more than seven minutes left to play, Godfrey was fouled pressuring the McCann Tech defense in the left-wing side of the penalty area. He then cashed in Hoosac Valley’s second PK of the game.

Rohlfs capped the scoring with just more than a minute left to play.

Jesse Brazze made 11 saves for McCann Tech (5-6-2), which hosts Commerce on Saturday before finishing at home against Westfield Tech on Monday.

Hoosac Valley finishes the regular season on Friday at Ware.
