PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Cristian Mendez scored three goals, and Carter Matthews had three assists Saturday to lead the Pittsfield boys soccer team to a 6-0 win over Wahconah at Kirvin Park.

Mendez got the Generals off to a quick start with a natural hat trick in the first three minutes of the game.

“He’s very calm and composed in the box, so when gets a split second he can find the shooting lanes and play that final pass into the back of the net,” Pittsfield coach Andrew Antil said.

Wahconah found its composure after the rough start and had Pittsfield on its heels for a little while before the Generals were able to get goals from Sam Higuera, Alejandro Lopez and Luke Peplowski in the second half.

Avi Snowise made two saves to earn the shutout win.

Kyle Brogan stopped two shots for Wahconah (2-5), which hosts Mount Greylock on Monday.

Pittsfield (4-3) hosts Monument Mountain on Thursday.
