Lenox Boys Down Monson
LENOX, Mass. -- Ian Laurin had a goal and an assist, and Michael Abdalla set up a pair of goals to give the Lenox boys soccer team a 4-1 win over Monson on Friday night.
The Millionaires (10-4-3) scored the game’s first four goals before the Mustangs were able to get on the board in the 78th minute.
After holding off some early pressure from the visitors in a first 20 minutes that Lenox coach Matt Cote described as “frenetic,” Matt Heim put one in the back of the net with an assist from Zi Santos in the 21st minute.
Nic Baruch scored just before the half with an assist from Laurin, and Laurin scored his own goal in the 46th minute to extend the lead. Abdalla earned his second assist on Alec Jordan’s goal two minutes later.
“For us, this was exactly what the doctor ordered,” Cote said of the win. “We have talked a lot about how we need to treat every game of this final stretch like a tournament game. We looked sharp in practice yesterday, and we had a great pregame warmup, accompanied by many Lenox Youth Soccer players and their coaches (our first annual Youth Soccer Night).
“I felt like we absorbed Monson's high early pressure very well, and were able to stick to our gameplan, which included playing hard but clean.”
Matt Tibbetts had five saves for Lenox, which hosts Mount Greylock on Monday night.
