SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Mary Nguyen and the McCann Tech girls' soccer team hit the ground running on Friday, scoring early and often in a 6-0 road win over Mount Everett. Nguyen scored three goals and added one assist for the Hornets, who dominated the scoreboard despite holding just a 12-9 edge in shots.

The Eagles, who were a bit tired after earning a 2-0 win over New Lebanon the day before, hurt themselves by giving up an own goal just four minutes into the game. Nguyen scored her first goal of the game off of a pass from freshman Monique Martel just over four minutes later, and the visitors added to their lead on a tally by fellow captain Alex Lincoln in the 15th minute of play.

"The Mount Everett defense was playing up all game, and our team was able to kick the ball over the top to Mary," McCann head coach Mike Dowling said. "She was just too fast for them and was able to get to the ball before the defense had time to react."

Nguyen added a pair of unassisted goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half before Martel scored her first varsity goal on an assist from junior Jordan Prevey in the 65th minute. Goalie Sam Hoover made nine saves in defeat for Everett, while junior Alex Wood made five stops to earn the shutout in net for the Hornets.

McCann next plays at Westfield Voc. at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
