WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Despite a solid defensive effort led by senior defender Alexa Adams and junior goalkeeper Margot Besnard, the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team fell 1-0 to Monument Mountain on Wednesday.

The Spartans' Courtney Freedman took a pass from Alanda Lopez and scored with a low, hard shot to the near post for the game winner 18 and half minutes into the game. It was the only blemish for Besnard, who made 13 saves in the game. Meg Nejaime was even better in net for Monument, however, making eight stops to help the Spartans improve their overall record to 5-2-3 this season.

The Mounties, who dropped to 6-4-2 with the loss, next play at South Division rival Hoosac Valley at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
