Monument Mountain Girls Blank AMSA in State Tourney

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Jade Nelson and Iris Firth each scored a goal Saturday as the Monument Mountain girls soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Advanced Math and Science Academy in the first round of the Division 4 State Tournament.
 
Nelson scored an unassisted goal late in the first half to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead at the break.
 
Then Firth converted a Mabel Cooney assist in the 45th minute to make it a two-goal margin.
 
AMSA got on the board with 13 minutes, 14 seconds remaining with a goal from Brooke Ryan.
 
Twelfth-seeded Monument Mountain (14-5) awaits the winner of Sunday’s game between Blue Hills and No. 5 Hamilton-Wehnham (13-0-3).
