Wahconah's Hill Wins Slalom, Lenox Girls Fourth in State

PRINCETON, Mass. -- Tanner Hill won the individual slalom title and led the Wahconah boys Alpine team to 10th place in the commonwealth at Tuesday's State Championships at Wachusett Mountain.
 
Lenox's girls placed fourth in the state behind a strong performance from senior Ella King, who placed second in the girls giant slalom.
 
Hill skied a time of 39.10 seconds in the slalom to eclipse runner-up Jason Dennoncourt of St. John's Prep, who finished in 39.30.
 
In the afternoon's GS competition, Hill placed fourth in the state with a time of 57.01. That was less than a second behind winner Bailey Laidman of Dover/Sherborn, who clocked a 56.16.
 
Grace O'Connor of Westfield won the girls GS in 57.24, and King was right behind her in the run order and on the scoreboard, finishing in 57.52.
 
Lenox's (1:00.53) Taylor Knight was 26th out of 131 finishers in the GS. Her teammates Hani Chung (1:02.98), Abby Kate Caproni (1:03.30) and Molly Knight were 54th, 57th and 85th, respectively.
 
Finishing just ahead of Caproni was Taconic's Jill Scussel (1:03.29) in 56th place.
 
Monument Mountain's Micaela Bartlett cracked the top 25 with a 22nd place time of 1:00.09, and Spartan Carly Terranova was 78th in 1:05.81.
 
In the girls slalom, Bartlett had the best finish among Berkshire County athletes with an 18th place time of 41.85. Terranova was 51st in 45.12.
 
Lenox's girls in the slalom included Taylor Knight (28th, 43.08), Caproni (48th, 44.97), Molly Knight (67th, 46.43) and Chung (100th, 49.44).
 
Wahconah's Cece Dunham was 102nd in the slalom with a time of 49.48.
 
For Taconic, Morgan Schnauber (47.22) and Scussell (47.62) finished 74th and 80th.
 
Altogether, 148 girls and 151 boys entered the state meet.
 
Along with Hill on the boys side were Kyle Brogan and Mike Reh.
 
In the slalom, Brogan (44.11) finished 60th, and Reh was 92nd (46.65). In the GS, Brogan (1:00.32) was 38th, and Reh was 109th (1:10.17).
 
Pittsfield's David Mansfield was 34th in the slalom with a time of 42.36, and Josh Mansfield (46.53) and Max Tabakin (47.38) were 91st and 101st, resepectively. David Mansfield (1:00.87) was 46th in the GS.
 
For Taconic, Cody Latimer skied to a 25th place finish in the GS with a time of 59.38 -- one of just 31 racers to finish in under a minute. Latimer was 56th in the slalom in 43.96.
 
Monument Mountain's Raphael Kummer-Landau was 82nd in the slalom in 45.96 and followed that with a 78th place finish in the GS in 1:03.38.
