Arden McKnight, Wahconah

Wahconah freshman Arden McKnight scored two goals to lead the Wahconah girls soccer team to a 4-1 win over Amherst in Tuesday night's season opener for both teams. Division 3 Wahconah is looking to improve on last year's 773 season and got off to a strong start against the Divison 1 foes. McKnight scored the game's first goal on an assist from Katie Dumas and added an unassisted tally in the second half to give her team a 3-1 lead at the time.

Khalil Kareh, Hoosac Valley

The season is less than a week old, but Hoosac Valley senior Khalil Kareh already may have provided one of its most dramatic moment. His free kick from 35 yards out curled under the crossbar with 11 seconds left and gave the Hurricanes a 1-1 tie against rival Drury in the season opener. Drury had taken a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds earlier.

"That's his first varsity goal, and what a time to do it," Hoosac coach Camilo Bermudez said afterward.
