Mount Greylock Girls, Boys Dominate at Hoosac Valley

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Mount Greylock's Margo Smith finished 50 seconds better than the field in the five-team cross country race at Hoosac Valley on Wednesday.
 
Smith finished in 19:38 to lead 10 Mounties in the top 15.
 
her teammate, Ellie Williams, finished second in 21:28 ahead of third-place Jamie Barth of host Hoosac (21:44).
 
Mount Greylock also dominated the boys race, where Tommy Kirby and Evan Arthur finished first and second, respectively, in 16:34 and 16:59.
 
Hoosac Valley's Jared Haley (17:23) finished third to be the only non Mountie in the top seven.
 
Owen Brandriss (17:29), Jacob Fink (17:38), Cameron Castonguay (17:43) and Sam Culver (17:52) finished fourth through seventh, respsectively.
 
Taconic's Trevor Pelkey (18:06) and Pittsfield's Noah Casino (18:08) finished eighth and 10th, respectively.
 
Mount Everett's boys were led by Kenneth Edwards (20:08).
 
In the girls race, Mount Greylock's Anya Sheldon (22:11) and Niku Darafshi (22:27) finished fourth and seventh, and Emily Lescarbeau (23:14) gave the Mounties a fifth top 10 finish.
 
Pittsfield's Taylor Maddalena (22:14) and Lessley Columna (22:36)  finished fifth and eighth. Taconic's Karli Manship (22:38) was ninth.
 
Mount Everett's Claudia Martin clocked a time of 25:05.
