WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Mount Greylock’s golf match against Pittsfield on Friday turned into a practice session and learning experience for players on both side, when illness forced the Generals to bring just three players to Waubeeka Golf Links, which meant a forfeit win for the Mounties.

“They came up like gentlemen, which was great,” Mount Greylock coach Mitchell Spooner said. “It was a great day for a mentorship program to an extent.”

Mount Greylock’s Tenley Smith turned in the best round of the day, carding a 42.

“Tenely showed up strong, led the team well and was a good mentor, which was more important to me than the number,” said Spooner, who was able to get nine players on the course.

Mount Greylock’s Ben Gilooly also missed the match with an illness after playing sick the day before at Monument Mountain.

Bennett Zimmerman carded a 47, and Braden Smith shot a 47 for Mount Greylock, which hosts Wahconah on Tuesday.
