SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Ava Massaro scored in overtime Friday to give the Wahconah girls lacrosse team a 10-9 win over Pope Francis.

Wahconah gave up a late lead in regulation but recovered to force overtime.

It got the game-winner when Claire Naef picked up the rebound of her shot to keep a possession alive and ended up feeding Massaro for her third goal of the game.

“We were a man down and leading by a goal and they scored two goals to go ahead by one,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “We came back and tied it up. We had the last possession in regulation, but could not score. Their goalie did a great job forcing overtime.”

Naef scored two goals and assisted on two more. Eva Eberwein had a goal and two assists.

Phalyn Renderer made eight saves to earn the win in goal.

Wahconah (3-1) hosts Chicopee Comp on Wednesday.
