GREENFIELD, Mass. – Ella Quinto hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth, and the Wahconah softball team held on for a 3-1 win over Greenfield on Tuesday.

Avery Vale-Cruz singled and Casey Wilson reached on an error ahead of Quinto, who drove both runners home to break the tie.

“Both pitchers did a great job keeping their teams in the game,” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. “Our kids played great defense today against a very good Greenfield team. These are the games you want to play this time of year.”

Wahconah had taken a 1-0 lead in the sixth when Vale-Cruz reached on a two-out walk and ended up coming home on Taylar Hickey’s RBI single.

But the Green Wave (8-5) fought back to tie it in the bottom of the sixth on Carly Blanchard’s RBI double.

Vale-Cruz struck out 14 and allowed just three hits to earn the win in the circle.

Wahconah (14-1) hosts Pittsfield on Friday.
